Want a crash course in NIO and fast IO in Java?  Then take a look at this issue for Lucene and then go do your homework.  The transferTo() trick is something I haven’t seen before and was a bit blown away by.  I have spent a few hours over the last few days coming to terms with NIO (something I really hadn’t paid much attention to before) but learning from the likes of Doug, Yonik and the others involved on this issue in the real world application of Lucene is something you can’t learn by reading online tutorials.
